Man in the Mirror - Landscapes

We are witnesses to growing climate crises and their devastating influences on the environment. Some parts of the planet have already become Sacrifice Zones; territories sacrificed to heavy industry or mining activities. Whether knowingly or accidentally, humans are dramatically changing the surface of the Earth, „eating away“ the wilderness, the green and the untouched, and contributing to the looming climate changes that don’t show signs of slowing down.

The subject of my art exploration is the contemporary landscape. It is far removed from the arcadian landscapes of the past and is now often more reminiscent of dystopian horror. Sadly, that is the true picture of the landscape today, which is tightly connected to man-made destruction. That is why in my artwork I often choose to paint areas that have already suffered some kind of ecological violence – fires, mining, deforestation, pollution, etc.

Exploring these subjects I collect visually interesting photos, information, and data and try to translate them visually onto my canvases. Nevertheless, I still seek beauty in these wounded landscapes; something poetic in the moment while fire “Swallows” parts of the forest, sparks of life left in the aftermath of the devastation – utopia and dystopia in one.

I truly believe these subjects mirror and testify to the time we are living in right now.

I have a however small hope that my paintings can attract some attention and draw the observer to at least contemplate the fate of nature and all of us together with it.
